Home Performance
What to expect during a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR assessment.
The Home Performance with ENERGY STAR assessment may take three to five hours. We do charge a fee on a sliding scale for the assessment. During the assessment, we will test and visually inspect every part of your home. We will give you a full report detailing what improvements should be made in your house. Items that will improve the energy efficiency of the house will be prioritized into levels according to their energy savings. Additional items for improving indoor air quality may also be recommended based on the results of the assessment.

A Home Performance assessment is fully comprehensive.
Items that are checked during every assessment include:
- Insulation levels for all building components.
- Window types.
- Air leakage pathways with the blower door test.
- Efficiencies of heating, cooling, and water heating equipment.
- Duct system effectiveness with flow hood or a duct blaster test.
- Ventilation systems (dryer, kitchen range, bath exhausts).
- Moisture management components (crawlspace vapor barrier, gutters, yard slope).
- Test for the possibility of back-drafting when gas-burning appliances are inside house.

“How Much will it cost me?”
The short answer is NOTHING!! It will end up saving you money. We can guarantee it. We have not found a house or commercial building yet that we have not been able to advise solutions for saving money. There is an up-front cost for performing the assessment and the cost is based on the size of the house and how many HVAC systems you have in it. It is simple to calculate.
Pricing for Comprehensive Home Performance Assessments is as follows:
- $350 for 1st 1500sf and includes 1 hvac unit and 1 combustion zone.
- Then $0.10 per square foot above 1500 and,
- $50 for each additional hvac or combustion zone
We are so confident that you will save money when you do the improvements that we will credit back to you 80% of the cost of the assessment after you choose us to do the recommended improvements.
And afterwards, when you get that first reduced utility bill, the assessment has paid for itself and the improvements are starting to pay you back!
